Posted: 07/03/2010 9:21 pm Post subject: WAR! Windrock Adventure for Rovers! July 24 |
|
|
I wanted to share the invitation from The Old North State Land Rover Society:
The Old North State Land Rover Society has set its sights for East Tennessee's Windrock OHV park.
This is an official Society Event.
Details:
Guide: Old North State
When: Saturday, July 24
Where: The meeting point will be at the main gravel parking lot of Windrock OHV at 9:30 Saturday morning. Windrock is located at 555 Windrock Rd., Oliver Springs, TN 37840.
Google map it here.
The Plan: Head for the trails at 10:00. We may break into groups to allow for differing comfort and skill levels as well as attendance numbers. This will also allow you the opportunity to try different routes. Please remember that if you are going to go with the more adventurous group that you must have your own recovery equipment.
If you want to talk with other drivers while out on the trail, most people are using FRS and CB radios.
You may want to bring something to eat for a lunch break on the trail.
A night ride may be in order for those who are interested.
Fees: Windrock rates are $17 per day per adult and $8 per day for children 8 and under (Yes the fees are per person, not per vehicle).
More information about Windrock can be found on their website.
Camping:
Where: We have reserved a handful of sites at Windrock Park for Friday and Saturday nights. If you plan to camp, you will need to let them know upon arrival that you are with the Old North State Land Rover Society to ensure you will be with the group. We will be staying in their Primitive Overflow section. The campground is on Windrock Road just prior to the OHV park.
Fees: The cost to stay at the Windrock Park campground is $17.00 (includes taxes) per night per site.
Windrock Park does have bath houses and RV or cabin rentals if interested. Check out their website. for more information.
Hope you can join us!
Thanks,
Steven

Hope you can make it Chris. I often think about Cole saying something hilarious when we were at the Knzalow's in Dayton. It was when I was trying to get up a ledge next to a tree and he shouts out: "Why don't he just use full power?". _________________ Steven Ratajczyk

There is just one week before the Old North State invades Windrock. So, are you ready for WAR?
"What can you expect?" you might be asking. Well, there will not be any meal tickets, no registration, there will not be an auction or a raffle. This is going to be a casual day with some old and maybe some new friends out for a day of camaraderie and off road driving in our favorite British vehicles.
A few members will be camping at Windrock Park Friday evening as to make the meet up Saturday morning a bit more convenient. Join us if you can... The more the merrier as they say. See the details in the original post for the camping arrangements. _________________ Steven Ratajczyk

I'd love to go, but I still have a few things to sort out with my truck. :/ _________________ Becca DuBose, KJ4RVR

Steven
Cole and I are out.
My truck is undergoing a heart transplant. It was not planned and happened very fast. The drivetrain just fell into my lap. _________________ Chris Robinson

Chris,
Best of luck with the cardiac surgery. Hope to see the revived Disco at Wooly's sometime.

It was HOT! Otherwise a good day. Well that is until the I got into a bad situation on trail 15. I was straddling a 4 ft V-ditch going uphill and slid in. I couldn't get back out of the rut. I was at about a 70 degree angle then broke motor mounts and lost oil pressure. 2 winches and an hour later I was back on all 4's. Lost a lot of stripes from dragging the truck on it's side. A couple others caved some doors and broke some motor mounts as well. Good news is that nobody broke down! We did more challenging stuff that day due to the type of trucks and tolerance of drivers.
Pics from my camera can be found here:

I will get some pics of my flop and recovery tomorrow hopefully. _________________ Steven Ratajczyk
